Theophilus, second century bishop of Antioch (circa 169-183 AD), wrote an interesting defence of the Christian faith to his pagan friend Autolycus. This is a wonderful early work. Theophilus makes clear the moral and intellectual bankruptcy of Greco-Roman paganism and gives positive witness to the faith of Jesus Christ.

Below is a quote from his work where he is discussing the creation and tri-unity of the True God of Scripture:

And as the sun far surpasses the moon in power and glory, so far does God surpass man. And as the sun remains ever full, never becoming less, so does God always abide perfect, being full of all power, and understanding, and wisdom, and immortality, and all good. But the moon wanes monthly, and in a manner dies, being a type of man; then it is born again, and is crescent, for a pattern of the future resurrection. In like manner also the three days which were before the luminaries, are types of the Trinity, of God, and His Word, and His wisdom. And the fourth is the type of man, who needs light, that so there may be God, the Word, wisdom, man. Wherefore also on the fourth day the lights were made.

Christianity is, and has always been, a faith that saw in God a unity and diversity, that is a Trinity.

I did not vote for president Obama, nor did I vote for anyone in the Democratically held House or Senate. I am no fan of the Democratic Party. I left that party in the 80's after borrowing and reading Jimmy Carter's presidential platform. I was so put off by what I read, the very next time I had a day off during the week, I went down to the parish court house (that is where you had to register to vote then) and changed my party affiliation to Republican.

I think even less of the Democratic Party today than I did then. So what follows is not written out of sympathy for the Dems.

Since the election, I have heard a good deal of Republican chest pounding and Republican incriminations against President Obama and the Dems. I here the Republicans complain about democratic plans to spend more money (which must be created by fiat) etc... When I hear these Republicans I think, "You sorry, lying hypocrite! Y'all had both houses of Congress and the Presidency and all y'all did was pile on the pork while you had the chance."

The Republicans blatantly lied to their constituents and made the dept sky rocket out of sight. What bothers the Republicans now is they have lost their hold on the Tax Payer Sow's tits and now the Dem's are the ones suckling on all the Sow's tits.

My view of the Democratic and Republican Parties is simple. It is, "A Pox on both your houses." I say that in the nicest way that I can muster. If I used explatives as adjectives I would have thrown one or two of them into my statement, but as a general rule, I don't talk that way.

I just finished watching a a program on Discovery Channel about new technologies that can potentially make us live much longer and keep us healthier in both body and mind. It was a fascinating show, that made me think of the Bible and especially the writings of the prophet Isaiah.

Why, you may ask, would a science show about extending and improving human life on this planet cause me to think of Isaiah. I will tell you why.

In Isaiah 65:20 we read "No longer will there be in it an infant who lives but a few days, Or an old man who does not live out his days; For the youth will die at the age of one hundred And the one who does not reach the age of one hundred Will be thought accursed."

I do believe people will live longer in the future. I also believe that the power of Christ's Gospel and the work of the Holy Spirit will increasingly bring the world to true and living faith in Jesus Christ.

I believe the premillennialism of much of most modern evangelicals is a grossly mistaken doctrine that has done some serious damage to the Church of Christ. Premillennialism is very much a minority position in the Church of Christ. I tend toward a very optimistic amillennialism, some folks call it post-millennialism, but I think that is a misnomer.

Christ Gospel and the Holy Spirit will conquer the world. Not with the weapons of men or coercion. They will accomplish this task by the two edged sword of the Gospel. This is by Christians living and proclaiming the gospel of Christ.

I don't think this is something that man could do, but God can do all things, even bring the great bulk of humanity to faith in Jesus Christ.
